I was seriously due for a haircut. I had left it for some time in a very uncontrollable state, to the extent that my hairdresser expressed her shock (a few times) about the seriousness of my split ends. She assumed that I hadn’t done anything to it for one year, when in fact its been… 6 months…. ew.
Took about 10cms off, enough to get rid of most of the hairsplitting and also back to dark brown. Looking back at some photos, I can’t believe I had blonde through my hair at one stage – oh, the younger days of life.
This leads to me another point: I feel like I’ve AGED!!! Sigh… maybe I’m being a big baby, but I overwhelmed by my schedule that I just feel so old and not having as much fun. My days consists of either whole day work, work then uni, whole day uni, or lectures on Saturday. My lack of new photos is obviously an indicator that I haven’t been doing anything particularly interesting as of late. However, at the same time, I feel quite productive! You see, when you have too much time on your hands, you just drag all your tasks out over a longer period – something that takes 1 hr to complete normally will end up taking 3 or 4 hrs from all the procrastination or what I would prefer to label as “study breaks”. Now, when I’m tempted to click into every ‘recent update’ there is on Facebook, or going through all my subscriptions on Youtube, or reading EVERY SINGLE blog in my RSS, the only thing that pops to mind is that I actually have NO TIME to waste. Most of the time that would knock me back on track…
Meanwhile, my lemmings are building up and I won’t be able to hold myself back for much longer…
That’s all for now.

So I was on my merry way catching a bus to work in the morning yesterday – express to the city.
I touched on with my Go Card and usually I don’t get asked to sight my student ID, but not today. Alright, I thought to myself, just doing their job thoroughly and it may have something to do with the fact that she’s a mature-aged woman so she rigidly follows the rules. No drama there.
However, as she was entering a round about another car had cut in front of the bus causing the bus driver to slam down the breaks hard.
The sudden jerking had caused a woman to fly out of her seat in the middle pathway, hitting her face on the floor. Ignoring the pain in my hard-hit knees (which was so minor in comparison to this poor woman on the ground yelping) I peaked to see how badly hurt she was. Two other passengers closer to her had swiftly got up to aid her, so to avoid crowding I remained in my seat.
“ANYONE HAVE TISSUES?”
- I scrambled to the front to give her a whole pack of tissues and saw that the woman’s face was bleeding from her cheeks and nose.
Bus driver called the ambulance and waited until they arrived at the scene.
Wait, there’s more.
To reduce further delay to the passengers left on the bus, the driver called another bus from the depot. After about 10 mins, there was still no replacement bus to be seen. I heard, “Hi, just calling to let you know that I’ll be a bit late today as there has been an accident on my bus.”
Frustration in the bus grew by the second. The bus driver called the operator on speaker and then informed us that the replacement bus BROKE DOWN on the way. Fabulous. Nice to see how reliable public transport is these days.
Oh, of course something else will happen to complete this series of bad luck.
So the same bus driver drove us all to the city. By the pattern of acceleration and braking, it was obvious that this driver was nervous and rushed. NOT A VERY GOOD COMBINATION! Just before pulling up to the city bus stop, “ANYONE HAVE TISSUES?”
- What now? I already gave all my tissues to the first lady. Someone had vomited on the ground, and as I peaked out to the side I saw more fluids being splashed on the floor. FANFREAKINGTASIC!! Blood AND vomit all in the span of 30 minutes!
1) Always bring tissues with you no matter where you go.
2) Public transport sucks.
One of my resolutions for this year was to spend more time behind the camera and hopefully get enough nice shots to make a portfolio. What better way to start then get myself more involved in the events around the community. I went to my first music gig last Saturday night at the yearly chinese singing competition. This is one of the biggest events for young talented people because the winners from all around the world get to go to Hong Kong to compete against each other. The winner of that final gets the opportunity to enter the show-biz and sign a music contract with a huge company.
You do feel the pressure and having to run around, ducking under the video cameras to not get in the way, dodging the guests at the front while trying not to distract the nervous contestants on stage. I could only work with what I had, which was just the kit lens and “nifty-fifty” prime lens – not what you call ‘pro’ at all. The thought of getting a $2000 lens did cross my mine, but I do consider before making any purchases the $1 per use/wear formula: Would I use the lens 2000 times?? Well, probably yes. But given my schedule these days, it might take me maybe 20 years to use it that much. For anyone wanting to upgrade lenses, the primary consideration would be to find what drives YOU to take photos. I mean it doesn’t matter that Tom, Dick & Harry all use the $1500-$2500 lenses and $5000 camera (although yes it would be nice if that’s your budget and you require it). At the end of the day no point having it all at home collecting dust when you maybe only need the ‘all-rounder’ for 90% of the time. For me, I’ve really found my passion for taking portraits and capturing the emotion on people’s faces, plus landscape & objects every so often.
Just got a new pencil case and I’m so in love with leather things. I really want to learn how to actually hand make and design accessories like this. So, my mission for next time I’m in Hong Kong is to go to Fungus Workshop to learn leathercraft! As seen on Ohhmyblog and Scription, the final products made from these classes are so cool! There’s necklaces, bracelets, pouches, camera cases, slippers, straps and bags. I love the exclusivity of making your own things – something that no-one else has. These are some items that students have made.
Recently, I’ve started…
- a new job
- uni semester 2
- drinking two coffees a day
- to like my fringe that went horribly wrong when it was fresh cut. Its actually turning out alright when its grown a bit.
- complaining about the trackball on my Blackberry (YAY new phone soon then!)
- considering whether to stick with micro 4/3 GF1 or invest in just Nikon gear? The more I read, the more undecided I become.
- a new shopping basket with ASOS… majorly needing some discount codes peeps!
- convincing myself to keep the iPhone 3GS for another year… and4its4not4working…iPhone4 yeah!
- thinking about which colour iPhone 4 to get… sexy black or fresh white?
- using twitter more than facebook… for some reason I feel better updating knowing mostly random ppl read it (and most likely not care anyway). Discuss.
- collecting spectacles… 6th pair on its way.
- to miss girls nights! Come back to Bris ppl!
I absolutely fell in love with these rings! Initially, I only intended to buy ONE of these. But as I was getting mixed opinions and couldn’t decide which one, I thought – why not get them all?! I mean look at them: a WING, a cute NUDE flower, and and and a WATCH RING! Ooookaaaaayyy… maybe I haven’t been shopping for accessories for awhile, but I thought it was pretty cool.
This I just found on my desk when I got home – a cute pack of erasers from my mother. Yes, she still thinks I’m a child so she loves buying random stuff like this for me. I don’t want to use them though!
Things you would typically find on me or with me. This picture reminds me of those “what’s in your bag” forums posts I see. Is it weird that I actually REALLY enjoy looking in people’s bags?! Its interesting to see 1) Handbags people use, 2) Gadgets, 3) Organisers & diaries, 4) Make-up cases and pouches, 5) Pens, 6) Weird stuff??
Well seems that there are plenty more people out there that is interested in what’s in your bag.
New KICKS!! Haven’t bought a pair of sneakers since getting back from Hong Kong. Everything here just seems so much more expensive. I really wanted a pair of plain white shoes and the trend lately seems to be all canvas. I have nothing against canvas but getting a pair of white ones will be such a nightmare. I’ll consider a pair of black ones though. I’ve always wanted to get a pair of Tigers – leather, arch support, slim and on sale… so here they are!
I think the next thing I need to get is a piggy bank.
