Its my turn! First time using half-frame cameras. I’m being so generous with the shots now because one roll of 36 exposures = 72 half-frame shots. Or you can switch it to square format. Although its just a cheapy plastic camera, the price also goes towards to the interesting and thoughtful packaging. I love the little book that comes with it. Makes me more excited about shooting with it.

Oh did I mention Diana Mini now comes in WHITE!!

For those actually interested in vintage half-frame cameras, do a search on Olympus Pen EE, Canon Demi EE and Ricoh Auto-half.

But for now, I must resume editing my assignment.

No joke. I’m assuming the seller had no idea what his camera was worth, and probably thought a 40 year old camera would have no salvage value. Oh he was very wrong. There’s still a pretty huge market out there, be it collectors or users, who are still on the look out for good condition film cameras. So happy I got this amazing bargain!!

I just love that excitement when you get your film developed. You just don’t know what it’ll turn out like – sometimes you surprise yourself with a great shot. Another thing about film is it forces you to really think about what you’re shooting and composition of your photos because you can’t just delete the shots you don’t like! Can’t wait to develop my next roll and also run a test roll in the Pentax!

Hipstamatic iPhone app is designed to not only take pictures like retro analog film camera, but it even looks and feels like you really are. The viewfinder is just a little square, shutter button, film window, flash ready indicator coupled with the respective sound effects.

At first by looking at the intro in the App Store, I couldn’t really grasp the concept and it just look like such a toy to me. Once you play with it, its a lot clearer! Basically, you have 3 components: lens, flash and film. You slide them left to right to change them. I took some time getting used to the controls and constantly pressed into the in-app purchases.

This app is $2.49AUD and comes with some default “lenses”, flash and film to give different effects. Since I was given an iTunes gift card (thanks Bobo!) I went ahead an bought the extras as well! So if you want full access to everything available in the app, its going to cost about $7.50AUD. Whether this is worth it depends on the individual but personally if I could make any random photo look good, why not?

I’m always curious as to why some apps receive such high ratings and always tempted to try them if it is within a reasonable budget. I have tried quite a lot of photography iPhone apps and this is one which I have to say I’m very impressed with – seeing as I’m taking the effort of doing this little review. Those who love photography as much as I do should really get it and those who think their photos are plain and boring should get it too Download in iTunes now.

I’ve tried a whole bunch of photography apps on the iPhone and couldn’t resist trying the Best Camera App by Chase Jarvis. This is the most expensive one I’ve bought so far ($3.99) XD… but hey, its by CHASE JARVIS!! Its got some nice filters and an easy to use UI. You can upload to your facebook, twitter, email to flickr and to the bestcamera.com site. Check out the photography community http://www.thebestcamera.com You could probably get similar effects by using the Photoshop.com App which is still free to download at the moment but you will need to spend a little more time editing, unlike the Best Camera app which applies the filter on one touch. Loving the results – just like a lomo toy camera!!

All wrapped up. Couldn’t leave the house without at least two jumpers, and either beanie or scarf…or both.

Reviving my first Lomography camera: Holga. Buying this camera was probably the starting point of my photography obsession. I didn’t use it much though (and actually ruined my first roll of film and gave up); but a friend has really gotten into it so its inspired me to dust it off and take it out of the box once again. Thanks to A for the 120mm film pronto! Really needed a bit of colour and fun after being overwhelmed with study. I’ll definitely make the most of it!!

My camera count is up to 5; with more to follow! wOOT!
